Communal violence erupted in Vadodara on Thursday, after one person was stabbed in Yakoutpura area. Rioting mobs pelted stones at four localities and adjoining areas, prompting police to lob teargas shells. Members of two communities indulged in stone-throwing in communally-sensitive localities of Yakoutpura, Maidapole, Fathepura, Chippawad and adjoining areas, Joint Commissioner of police K Kumaraswami told PTI. One autorickshaw was also torched by rioting mobs. Police lobbed teargas shells to quell groups of persons of two communities who gathered after a crude bomb exploded in Lalwada area Thursday night, police said adding there was also reports of stone-pelting in the locality. Patrolling has been intensified in the sensitive area after the incident and the situation was under control. The city has been in the grip of communal tension for the last few days following sporadic violence and communal clashes. |
